Pretty Darned Boring, We Are

As I suggested in yesterday's post, not much was expected to happen today as we're at sea the next two days en route to Ft. Lauderdale for our disembarkation.  It did cause me to reflect on how much I enjoy spending time with Cheryl, though, because there were really no distractions.  And, consequently, I've enjoyed the opportunity to be with my best friend in life.

We slept in (until 7:00 a.m. which is late for me since I'm usually up at 5:00 a.m.), had breakfast, and then I went to a port talk on the various explorers who found their way from both Europe and China toward the Americas.  The speaker was an English professor and she was just o.k.  The knowledge was there but the presentation was really lacking.  I always prided myself on this aspect of teaching when I spent five years as a radiography educator, and at the risk of being judgmental, it wasn't great.  Could've been a lot better but it was one of those "pass the time" events.

After that, we tried out the walking track - our daily newsletter on board clearly says that walking on the path is supposed to go clockwise.  I tolerated the few people who chose to ignore that (especially one guy who was the size of the Hulk!), but in coming through a narrow passageway with a couple coming at me, the wife gave me a look like "how're we both going to fit through there?"

I turned into the old-man-who-says-get-off-my-lawn, and gave a firm pointing of my hands in the opposite direction of what they were walking and said "you're supposed to go clockwise!".  The husband of the pair said "Oh, really?" as if it were the world's biggest surprise.  No further engagement ensued as two old men throwing punches didn't seem appropriate, and we kept walking.  We didn't see them again as they were either done and left or I shamed them into leaving.  One less counter-clockwise walker though . . . .a small victory for the rules.

From there we had a lovely poolside lunch (hamburger and hot dog) at the Poolside Grill and thought about a swim in the pool.  Because everyone was on the boat without any shore excursions, though, every single seat at the pool was taken.  We adjourned back to the room and, guess what, took a nap!  It has felt great to sleep in and take naps and I'll miss both of those when we return to our normal lives.

On to dinner (which turned out to be delicious surf and turf) and then a movie from our on-demand system.  Tonight it was "Wolves" featuring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, a comedy (of sorts) about fixers.  Really good.  Last night it was "Midas Touch", a brand new biopic about Brian Epstein, the manager of the Beatles - excellent.  And, the night before was "Mitty" with Ben Stiller, a remake of the classic James Thurber tale.  It was totally charming and very reminiscent of the style of "Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou".  Highly recommend it.

And, after a wonderful night of sleep as we approach home, we'll wake up to a new and our last day onboard.
